Gegory Maguire é autor de sete livros para adultos e mais de uma dúzia de livros para crianças. Algumas das duas obras recontam histórias infantis bem conhecidas, como O Feiticeiro de Oz de L. Frank Baum. Este livro, A Bruxa de Oz, originou um aclamado musical da Broadway, com música e letra de Stephen Schwartz. 
Licenciado em Literatura Inglesa e Americana pela Tufts University, trabalhou como professor e co-director da Simmons College Center for the Study of Children's Literature e em 1987 foi co-fundador da Children's Literature New England, uma organização de caridade sem fins lucrativos. 
Atualmente vive em Concord, Massachusetts.
